Sister Agnes Earnestine Baldwin was born April 5, 1925, in Colquitt, Georgia, to Mr. Calvin and Mrs. Evelyn Baldwin. She departed this earthly life on April 19, 2022, at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, Georgia. She attended elementary school in Miller County, Georgia, and Union Normal School in the Decatur County School System in Bainbridge, Georgia. She went on to teach at St. Mary’s School in Baker County, Georgia, and later ran her own business in Miller County for over thirty-five years.
Sister Agnes accepted CHRIST at an early age. She attended First Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, holding the position of Church Clerk for many years.
Sister Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; eight siblings: Eddie Belle Shields, Marie Fountain, Lavergne Winds, Walter Baldwin, Benjamin Baldwin, Dewey Lee Baldwin, Calvin Baldwin, and Willotine Baldwin; four children: James Douglas Baldwin Sr., Earnest Wazel Baldwin, Tommie Lee Baldwin (Cheryl), and Marie Ann Baldwin; two grandchildren, Kim Laveris Sanders and Errol Emon Sanders; one adopted daughter, Christine Wilson-Middleton; and a great granddaughter, Brandi Anderson.
She leaves to cherish her memories three children: Joyce Baldwin-Parrish (Kenneth) (her caretakers) of College Park, GA, Ray Baldwin (Mary) of Detroit, MI, and Bettye Sanders of Union City, GA; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sister Agnes was a kind, loving and sweet-spirited person with a sense of humor who was always willing to give, to assist and to serve wherever she was needed. She planted her seeds of life along the way and reaped the harvest from them at harvest time. Glory to GOD THE MOST HIGH for longevity, grace and mercy awarded to this strong soldier.
Psalm 90:10 (NIV) says, “Our days come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away”. Sister Agnes was ninety-seven years old as of April 5. What a Soldier! She fought until the end, and far exceeded what was promised.
