Bernard Akins was born March 24, 1962, in Queens, New York to the late Lelar Akins and the late Joe Louis Close. He departed his earthly life in Bainbridge, Georgia, on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at the age of sixty.
He accepted CHRIST at an early age and became a faithful member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Faceville, Georgia. Bernard was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. His last employer was Carter’s Fried Chicken; he worked there as a cook for many years before his health declined.
Bernard was very social and had a great sense of humor. He loved to cook and entertain people.
Bernard leaves to cherish his precious memories a beloved sister, Gloria Clark (Kenneth); precious brother, Curtis Akins; special one whom he loved like a daughter, Alexis Conley; two loving aunties, Ida Akins and Maebelle Henry; nephew whom he loved dearly, Kenny Clark; stepmother, Mary Ann Close; two sisters, Susanne Switzer (David) and Rose; two brothers, Eric Close (Shannon) and Reggie Close (Shannon); special cousins considered as siblings: Robert Akins (Lora), Dr. Annie Doris Levens-Morris (Nelson), and Kenneth Levens (Doretha); and a host of additional cousins and friends.
