Donella Smart

Donella Smart, affectionately called “Timey”, was born July 19, 1952, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Mr. Lonnie and Mrs. Mary Smart.  She was the third child of seven.  On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Bainbridge Health and Rehab Center, Donella was called Home to live with our HEAVENLY FATHER.  She was preceded in death by her father, her sister Mary A. “Pee-Wee” Smart, her brother Reverend Moses Smart and her brother-in-law Michael Love Sr.

Donella came from a Christian home.  She confessed CHRIST as her Personal SAVIOR at an early age and joined Adams Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, serving faithfully as an usher and member until her health failed.  She loved her church and members.

She attended the public schools of Decatur County, Georgia, graduating Hutto High School in the Class of 1970.  She also attended Albany State College, majoring in Cosmetology.  Donella worked at P. R. Harrell & Sons, Inc.’s Chicken Farm for many years.  She also worked at Eastman Kodak Company for twenty-four years.  In addition, she worked at Bainbridge Memorial Hospital as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for several years.  She did catering with Ms. Faye Martin and Ms. Nelda Moore, as well as with Ms. Gunzella Crawford.

Having touched many lives with her kindness, humbleness, caring spirit and big heart full of love, Donella leaves cherished memories with those who love her, including her  mother, Mary E. Smart of Bainbridge, GA; son, Aaron Smart Gayle of Bainbridge; two grandchildren, Kameron Gayle and Zariyah Footman; two sisters, Iola Wade (Willie) and Dorothy Love, both of Bainbridge; two brothers, Lonniell Smart Sr. (Barbara) of Radcliff, KY, and Winford Smart of Houston, TX; four aunts: Iona Cason of Albany, GA, Leola Tucker, Ruby Samuel, both of Bainbridge, and Diana Samuel of Atlanta, GA; two uncles, Willie C. Tucker, Sr. of Bainbridge and Joseph Samuel of Atlanta, GA; godson, Eldridge Smart (Anne) of Rochester, NY; and a host of caring nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
