Eurkie Lee McLemore was born on August 12,1946, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to the late Deacon Harmon McLemore Sr. and the late Annie Beth Thomas McLemore. She was one of three children born to the couple with the oldest passing at birth. Her other sibling Deacon Harmon McLemore Jr. also preceded her in death. On October 25, 2024, she departed this earthly world to be with our HEAVENLY FATHER, LORD and SAVIOR after a lengthy illness.
Eurkie graduated from Hutto High School in 1964, where she excelled academically. She would obtain a degree in education from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama.There, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After graduation, she became a charter member of the Lambda Xi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in Thomasville, Georgia. She would later attend Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, furthering her education in social work and business. Eurkie was fluent in three languages, which included Spanish, French and German; she became an interpreter and English teacher to many immigrating Latin and Haitian Americans.
Eurkie was employed as a Teacher at Thomas County Central High School, Thomasville, Georgia, in the 1970's. She would later find employment as a Case Worker for the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services, retiring after twenty-plus years of service. She later became employed as an Investigative Specialist of Condominiums for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations, from where she also retired.
Eurkie loved to share stories regarding her father Harmon Sr. teaching her how to drive a tractor, along with many stories as a college student during her time at Talladega.
Eurkie leaves her love and cherished memories to her only son Jeffrey McLemore of Tallahassee, Florida; a sister-in-law Brenda Sheffield of Bainbridge, GA; the following four nieces: Vanessa Thomas (Keithon), Natasha McLemore, Regina Stubbs, and Jordan Thomas, all of Albany, GA; two special cousins Melba Andrews (John) of Attapulgus, GA, and Catherine Register (Frank) of Donalsonville, GA; also, two special friends who visited her for comfort and support, Joan Smith and her daughter LaQuan Smith, both of Tallahassee, FL; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
