Brother Ira Lee “Harpo” Swatts was born May 25, 1962, in Calvary, Georgia, to the late Mr. Nathaniel Swatts Sr. and Mrs. Christine Maddox Swatts. He was the eighth of twelve children. GOD called him Home on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Ira attended the Gadsden County Public School System. He was a graduate of Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center in Morganfield, Kentucy. He was an employee of Elberta Crate & Box Company and Bainbridge Memorial Hospital and Manor. His last employment was with the Decatur Board of Education as a Custodian, where he retired.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, cousin and friend. Well known and loved by many, Ira will surely be missed. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Ann Smith-Swatts; his sister Glenda L. Swatts; his brothers Nathaniel Swatts Jr., Clifford Swatts and Clarence Swatts; and his two sisters-in-law Dorothy L. Smith-Goss and Charity Thomas.
Ira leaves to cherish his memory three daughters Jeanette Young, Jamia Smith and Ashlie Smith (Kevin), all of Attapulgus, GA; son JeMicheal Smith of Attapulgus; six grandchildren Ja’Nedra Young, Na’Riah Young, E’Shon Smith, Nhavion Young, Kaiden Bowden and Kash Rambo, all of Attapulgus; great granddaughter Kailani Griffin of Attapulgus; his mother Christine Swatts of Tallahassee, FL; three sisters Lucille MacWhite, Gwendolyn Swatts, both of Tallahassee, FL, and Ella M. Patten of Tampa, FL; four brothers James Swatts (Sherrly) of Attapulgus, Willie Swatts (Yvonne), David Swatts (Mamie) and Paul Swatts, all of Tallahassee, FL; brother-in-law Donalson Goss of Fowlstown, GA; a special friend, Louvenia Scott of Bainbridge, GA; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
