Marcus Louis Close Sr.

Marcus Louis Close Sr. (80), son of the late Reverend J. B. Close and Mother Ossie Mae Close, was born March 4, 1941, in Bainbridge, Georgia.  On Monday, January 24, 2022, our guardian angel peacefully closed his eyes and gained his wings at Pelham Parkway Nursing Home in Pelham, Georgia.

Marcus attended the Decatur County Public School System.  He was employed with Southern Tire Company for forty years until he retired.  Marcus had a true passion for spending time with family and friends, going fishing, and watching both basketball and football.  He loved his beautiful wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren with all his heart.

On March 25, 1961, Marcus married the late former Annie Lee Batts.  Their union of fifty-seven years bore five children; one of whom, Virginia C. Harris, preceded him in death.  He was also predeceased by six brothers: Elder Charles Close, Neazer Close, Howard Close, Willie Close, Nathaniel Close, and Bobby Close; and one sister, Barbara Jean Weston. 

He leaves to cherish his memories his children: Allen (Janice) of Bainbridge, GA, Marcus Jr. (Tondra) of Valdosta, GA, Cynthia, and Calvin, both of Bainbridge; nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; four siblings: Eddie Close (Margie) of Detroit, MI, Clara Close of Bainbridge, Dorothy Williams of Miami, FL, and Anna Doris Campbell (Gregory Sr.) of Miramar, FL; two special friends, Noble Jackson and Artis Rambo Sr., both of Bainbridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
