Odessa B. Johnson, affectionately known as “Took”, was born on September 9 1929, in Early County, Georgia, to the late Zollie Buggs Sr. and Emma Williams Bugss. She was the youngest of seven siblings; all of whom preceded her in death.
Odessa was married to the late Willie James Johnson. To this union were born seven children.
Odessa accepted JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR in her life. She joined Salem Missionary Baptist Church of Faceville, Georgia, and attended frequently earlier in life before her health began to fail. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Odessa lived out the latter years of her life at Memorial Manor in Bainbridge, Georgia, where she was very affectionately known as
“Det”, “O. J.” and “Grandma”.
Odessa received the call from THE MASTER on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, to take her Eternal Rest. A lovely mother, grandmother, great grandmother and auntie who never met a stranger, she will be truly missed by her loved ones. She was preceded in death by four of her children: Zollie Johnson, Randy Johnson, Annie Green, and Willie Mae Wooden; and two grandchildren, Willie D. Wooden and John Jr. Wooden.
She leaves to cherish her memory three devoted daughters: Perry Chandler (Lawson II), Laddie Bouie, and Dorothy Johnson, all of Bainbridge, GA; a special grandson whom she raised, Johnny Johnson of Bainbridge; thirteen additional grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a goddaughter, Gail Tolbert of Bainbridge; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
