Richard Allen Rollins Sr. was born to Mr. John Henry Rollins Sr. and Mrs. Sarah Johnson Rollins on November 10, 1946, in Bainbridge, Georgia. He was reared with the strong upbringing and teachings of the Christian family. His father served as Deacon and his mother as a Deaconess. He was baptized at First African Baptist Church of Webster Street in Bainbridge and became a member at an early age. After graduating from Hutto High School, he attended Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama, and was later drafted into the United States Navy. Upon returning to Albany, Georgia, Richard attended the Third Kiokee Missionary Baptist Church.
Richard later met and married the love of his life, the former Miss Mildred Screen, on August 24, 1969; she preceded him in death. He departed his earthly life on Monday, August 7, 2023, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Rollins Sr., and sister, Sandra Lynita Rollins, preceded him in death. He will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him. The community will greatly miss him for the service and the outpouring of friendship and love that he amplified.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children–a daughter, Cora Rollins Felder (Charles) of Montgomery, Alabama, and four sons: Richard “Little Richard” Rollins Jr. of Albany, Georgia, Christopher M. Screen of Savannah, Georgia, Gregory R. Rollins (Gale) of El Paso, Texas, and Reverend Dr. Reginald Screen of Lawrenceville, Georgia; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers: John H. Rollins Jr. of Bainbridge, Georgia, Ronald H. Rollins (Canesta) of Opelika, Alabama, and Winston Rollins (Calvine) of Bainbridge, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In celebration, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with THE LORD” (2 Corinthians 5:8, KJV).
