Mrs. Rossie Lee Robinson-Johnson was born June 26, 1931, in Colquitt, Georgia, to the late Mr. Buster and Mrs. Elnora Haire Robinson. She was the third child and was preceded in death by her sisters, brothers and their spouses: Ms. Darnella “Chuck” Robinson, Mr. Robert B. Harrell (Trudy), Mr. Ransom Jackson (Delores), Mr. Johnny Robinson (Vera), and Mrs. Inell Robinson Washington (Richard).
She attended school at Mt. Moriah in Colquitt. During her attendance, she would often teach the classes in the absence of her teacher, Mrs. Mamie Greenlee.
At an early age, she met and married Mr. Mark “Sit” Johnson, who preceded her in death. From this union, ten children were born; three of whom–Mrs. Lorraine Johnson Tyler Gordon (Master Tyler Sr. and Earl Gordon), Mrs. Lessie Ree Johnson Close (Jimmy Sr.), and Mr. Kenneth Johnson–preceded her in death.
She loved, supported and assisted all of her children in a special way. She always prayed for each of them, calling their names one by one. She never lost sight of her entire family. She also planned and implemented family gatherings and reunions along with her daughter Ms. Linda L. Johnson.
During the early years of marriage, she was a housewife. Also, she became gainfully employed by her father and mother on the family-owned “Robinson Farm”, where she assisted in planting, cultivating and gathering the crops. She worked mainly with her siblings Johnny and Inell, as well as all of her children. This farm was located on the now Robinson-Wells Road in Colquitt, behind which the old family farm areas were that are now known as Wall Road.
At an early age, she joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Colquitt, where she served faithfully. In the mid-1960's, the family moved to Bainbridge, Georgia. In the late 1960's, Rossie Lee relocated to Rochester, New York, where she attended the local churches in the Kendall area. Also, she was gainfully employed in the housekeeping industry for many years.
Rossie Lee left New York in the 1970's and moved to Laurinburg, North Carolina. She became employed as a Home Nursing Assistant. Her nephew, Larry D. Robinson, spent some time with her in Laurinburg. During the mid-1970's, she returned to Colquitt with her mother and younger siblings. She rejoined Macedonia under the pastorate of Reverend Samuel Clark, serving faithfully until she moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and briefly joined, worshipped and faithfully worked at Jacob Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under Pastor David Henderson. Later, she joined and was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness, working, witnessing and studying continuously for many years until her health declined.
She leaves to cherish her memories three sons: Henry Lee Johnson (Peggy), Pastor Isadore Johnson (Joyce), both of Tallahassee, FL, and Ellis Lamar Johnson of Titusville, Florida; four daughters: Lucille Johnson of West Palm Beach, FL, Linda Laverne Johnson, Brenda Jean Johnson, and Michelle Johnson, all of Tallahassee, FL; twenty grandchildren; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends.
